Technology in the Classroom at Morley Elementary School

The Smart Board is used almost everyday in my Tuesday Experience classroom. The fourth graders respond very well to the use of technology in the classroom; Mr. B successfully employs the Smart Board into a wide variety of lessons. In particular, the students are learning about division and fractions - the Smart Board is a great tool to help foster learning because students are able to interactively participate in front of the class.

I would highly recommend the Smart Board to all school systems as well as Saint Joseph College because it is an invaluable resource that students seem to truly enjoy. Perhaps, an observation can be made in my fourth grade classroom by those who have yet to see the Smart Board used in the classroom. If anyone is interested in observing, feel free to comment to this post and I will talk to Mr. B about setting up a convenient time to stop in. Feel free to ask questions about what I have observed as well!

Hi Taylor:

My classroom just installed their new smartboard last Tuesday, and they just started to use it this Tuesday. I am thrilled that our classroom has a smartboard and am hoping that I will be able to see it implemented in the classroom. I am also hoping that I have a chance to learn to use the smartboard. I was wondering if you have had experience using the smartboard in your classroom yet?

Unfortunetly I have not gotten the chance to work with a smart board in the classroom. Actually I have only seen it used once, and that was for a brief minute. I am at Bugbee and I know that they have them there, but my classroom does not. It seems to me that it would be a great learning tool for the more visual learners.

I would love the chance to experiment with it; that's why I agree with you and think that Saint Joseph should invest in one. It would be a great opporunity for us students to use it and possible get our own school districts to invest in one.

Katie,

I actually haven't had the chance to use the Smart Board yet. The teacher briefly explained some of the features. The students love the Smart Board, especially during math lessons. The teacher is able to select whatever shape he would like to draw and all he has to do is drag his pen to make the shape smaller or larger. We just used the Smart Board for a lesson on symmetry and having very neat shapes to work with makes all the difference in the world. The teacher also uses the board for spelling and other lessons. The students are able to go to the board and participate. The possibilities are endless and I really look forward to the opportunity to use the Smart Board myself!
